Reunification and Family Involvement

Parents or guardians will receive written reports concerning the progress of their child from the student's case manager.

Telephone therapy sessions involving the parents or guardian and student will be arranged by the student's case manager and conducted by the student's therapist in a partnership arrangement with the parents or guardians.

These sessions are for the purpose of involving the parents in the assessment of the family reunification needs; to set goals and objectives to meet those needs; and to address those needs during the duration of the student's treatment experience in preparation for their return to the family.

Family Reunification Workshops are designed to address the issues which have been hindering family happiness, peace, and unity, and for the parent/guardian and student to learn new skills which help build a healthy and supportive family system. These workshops are held quarterly at Cinnamon Hills and include:
  • Educational discussion groups involving all participating students and their families.
  • Discussion groups for all participating parents.
  • Sessions between parent(s) of a student and his/her therapist.
  • Family Therapy sessions for each individual family

The process of change for students is a difficult one, yet success can be achieved when the student has the participation and support of the parents/guardian during the Cinnamon Hills experience. The Family Workshop will:

  • Educating the family about the self-defeating behavior patterns associated with addiction and conduct disordered behaviors.
  • Understanding and coping with mental health issues.
  • Identifying the problems which have been present in the family system, and help each family member understand his/her role in those problems.
Heal family wounds by:
  • Making amends for past wrongs.
  • Mutual forgiveness.
Develop family strength and confidence through:
  • Open and honest communication.
  • Learning how to establish rules and limits.
  • Fixing and building damaged relationships
Prepare for family reunification by rehearsing family system problems and participating in discharge and aftercare planning,
Costs associated with the Family Reunification Program will be explained by the student's case manager.
